What is the Purpose of a Pacemaker?
In the event of a heartbeat that is too slow or pauses, a pacemaker keeps the rhythm stable. Depending on the model, it can also have a defibrillator (ICD) or heart-strengthening function (CRT). It is implanted under local anesthesia in the shoulder area – and usually you can go home the next day.
MICRA: a tiny capsule pacemaker that is inserted directly into the heart via a catheter.
LBBP: a modern pacemaker implantation with heart-strengthening effect, performed with detailed ECG control.
Fun Fact: I was one of the first users of LBBP pacemaker technology in Lower Austria.
